Trench, solar, generator, or go without. Here's what each of them actually looks like when the job is to keep a small instrument alive for a month with nobody driving out.
Met One's own manual says powering a single 50-watt dust monitor off-grid takes 290–1,010 W of solar panel plus seven 110 Ah batteries — and North Idaho in December is the 1,010 W end.
Watts and days. Pick what you're running, tell me how long between visits, and I'll tell you honestly whether this is the right tool — or whether you want a towable genset.
Comfortable. Expect a service visit about every 25 days — whichever hits first.
Every add-on eats into the same daily energy budget as your instruments. We show the cost in both currencies. If a percent is highlighted, that's the one you should think twice about.
Best-case energy intensity is 0.3 kWh per litre. One gallon a day is a third of the entire budget. In a North Idaho winter it doesn't degrade — it stops: at 5 °C / 40 % RH the dew point is −7.5 °C and the coil makes frost, not water.
A SHURflo pump at 26–82 W intermittent plus a Viqua UV at 17 W is 0.02–0.4 kWh/day — one to three percent of budget. Spec heat trace beforefiltration; it's the binding constraint in winter.
Everything inside is full-service — we deliver, install, monitor, and refuel. Everything outside is customer pickup or freight, priced separately.
We don't cover Oregon. The parts of Oregon that need this are 8–9 hours away across the Cascades. Delivered service there would cost more than the box. If you're on that side, we can talk about freight — but it's not the same product.
Use the calculator, get a verdict, save the config. Or just call — you tell me watts and days.
Deposit is fully credited to month one. Refundable if we can’t make the site work.
Access, siting, refuel plan, safety briefing. If you’re on a GC site, NRTL package lands before the call.
I drop the box, commission the load, hand you a dashboard login. Service is scheduled off telemetry, not a calendar.
Credited fully to your first month. Every deployment needs a site conversation — access, siting, refuel plan, safety briefing — so the last step is a call, not a checkout.
Company + site location. This is what we quote against.
